Missouri – Lone Jack (outside of Kansas City)/ Lake Paradise Resort (Jun 24-30, 2017)

Lone Jack, MO (outside of Kansas City), Lake Paradise Resort (Jun 24- 30, 2017)

So we left Oklahoma/National Rally and landed in Lone Jack, MO as we travel to Mt. Rushmore. We stayed at the the Lake Paradise Resort. http://www.lakeparadiseresort.com/  Last year they were part of the RPI system which meant we paid $10 a night. However, this year, they offered us the half price rate ($18.50/night) from Passport America since we stayed before.

The Lake Paradise Resort was beautiful with all the lakes inside. It was also very empty. The roads are gravel and just ok condition but the location is what made it enjoyable. The below pictures are the view from our coach.

We saw Lorraine’s friend, Scot Eagle once again. It was great seeing him and talking to him. We went to Jack’s Stack BBQ   http://www.jackstackbbq.com/ which of course served some awesome BBQ.

In addition to the good food there, we also went to Harry S. Truman Presidential Museum and Library.

This was a very nice library and we had a tour guide – which was free. It was very calm. Pres. Truman was a simple man and didn’t like the library to be all about him. So he had the the following mural painted in the entrance way. This mural was incredible. It has not been touched up since it was painted since the artist put a sealant over it that has maintained this beautiful mural. The picture does not do it justice so you will have to see it in person. As you can see, it a mural of the transformation of Missouri.

Inside the museum were also some very nice pieces. First his “statement” of the buck stops here and the backside of this piece. He was very proud to be from Missouri.

We got to see the Oval Office as it was set up during his stay as well as other mementos.

From the office he sat in while they were building the  library, he kept pointing to a spot outside and said that was the place he would be forever. He and Betsy, his wife are buried there along with his daugher across the path.

You can always take a selfie with a reproduction statute of him.

 TThis was his final office before he died. They preserved it and annually the preservation society comes to clean it – with three teams. One to do the cleaning, one to watch them do the cleaning and the third to watch that everything is put back in its original place. The man’s bust on his desk at the far right is actually Lyndon Baines Johnson’s bust. Apparently, LBJ sent his bust to many.

From there we went to the Truman Court House. Missouri loved this man so there are many tributes and naming of places.

The next day we went to the National WWI Museum and Memorial. In 2004, the Museum was designated by Congress as the nation’s official World War I. https://www.theworldwar.org/

“Soon after World War I ended, Kansas City leaders formed the Liberty Memorial Association (LMA) to create a lasting monument to the men and women who had served in the war. In 1919, the LMA and citizens of Kansas City raised more than $2.5 million in just 10 days. The equivalent of roughly $34 million today, this staggering accomplishment reflected the passion of public sentiment for the Great War that had dramatically changed the world.

In 1921, more than 100,000 people gathered to see the supreme Allied commanders dedicate the site of the Liberty Memorial. This was the first time in history these five leaders were together in one place.” {Five supreme allied commanders are: Marshall Foch (France), Admiral Beatty (Great Britain); General Pershing (USA); General Diaz (Italy); General Jacques (Belgium)}

“Construction on the classical Egyptian Revival-style monument was completed in 1926 and the Liberty Memorial was dedicated by President Calvin Coolidge in front of more than 150,000 people.”

Outside, they have stones for all those that passed away during the war. Below is the view of them before you walk toward the memorial.

Here are some pictures from inside.

We finalized the stay by having lunch at   Smokin’ Guns BBQ which was on Triple D (Diners, Drive-in and Dives). Where Guy eats, we eat. (LOL) This is a family owned and operated joint and the food was great so much so we took left overs home for another meal. Yum.
