As you are aware, we are in Tucson until the end of February. We decided to track down all the murals in Tucson. We love to go to places where the city does things like this. In Tucson, there apparently are more than 20 murals throughout the city – many we didn’t get to. This city is full of them. They all range from small to very large plus they are painted on the side of buildings. It seems like almost every Tucson wall tells a story. We love to see not only what the stories are but also the talent. According to the city government, “the City of Tucson is dedicated to creating a vibrant, safe and interesting greater downtown. As we work toward that goal, it is a priority to beautify blighted areas, strengthen the local culture, and provide a visually-friendly environment for residents and visitors to dine, shop, work, and live. The Tucson Mural Program is providing funding for murals that reflect diversity in style and culture. The program will encourage artists from diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply and offer their ideas and designs for these murals.”
So we will share with you the murals in Tucson that we took pictures of. You can always find others at Tucson Murals website.
Of course, we need to start with Greetings from Tucson which is located at N Arizona Ave & E 7th St. which is at Miller’ Surplus and done Feb 2017. The mural artist is Victor Ving who does a cross-country road trip in their RV. Check out his website: http://www.greetingstour.com to see all of his murals. Check and see if one is in your town.
This mural is outstanding and was done in Jun 2017. The colors were so vibrant. Loved this one. (120 wide tall x 33 feet tall = 4000 sq ft). This was done by Joe Pagac who has done many. Checkout his video at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1092548129/huge-cycling-bike-mural-for-tucson-arizona
The below was done by Rock Martinez and the woman is his girlfriend, Brandi Watkins, which was done May 2016.
And we had to leave this fun one for last of Bill Walton riding a jackalope by Ignacio Garcia who has many murals in the city.
In addition to the murals, there are some great sculptures. This one is surprise. You don’t see as you are driving to it but when you are next to it, it appears. What an artist!
This one is a new sculpture that has been put up but not yet finished on the grounds with plaque. The Circle of Friendship. Again the same spacing as the horses above.
All in all it is amazing to see this much talent in this city.
Of course, we had to visit a local restaurant – the Stray Dogs Grill. Although we didn’t order their huge shakes, we plan on going back for lunch and dinner and only ordering that. As you can see below, the servings are huge.
We had a great time looking at this city and their murals.
