Arizona – Mesa / Sculptures (Nov 11, 2018)

As we mentioned in our previous post, we visited downtown Mesa and viewed the murals and the sculptures. Here is the map again of the area.

Now the sculptures. There are 38 identified sculptures in Downtown.

Teaching the Children by Artist James Avati -commissioned by the Mesa Public Schools and the Mesa Historic Society. (#35)
Two Horses by Artist Mike Dwyer. The poor horses are so skinny. (#34)
This was a fun sculpture – Big League Dreams – from the umpires view (Mike) unknown artist but sponsored by the Chicago Cubs Mesa Hohokams and City of Mesa. (#32)
The Pitchers View. (#32)
Zebulon “Zeb” Pearce was many things. A mayor. A council member. A produce and feed store owner. An entrepreneur. And a Mormon. Which makes his additional vocation as Mesa’s first beer distributor after Prohibition a little ironic, according to his great-granddaughter, Meghan Pearce, who runs the Pearce Family Foundation. (#29)
Truth by James Muir #31. There was nothing on the newspaper pages so we didn’t know what the truth was. (#31)
Learning together by Carol Davenport (#23)
Home Delivery by Steven Schneider #26
Climb as High as Your Dreams by Artist Chris Navarro (#3). What a great sculpture.
They Are Waiting by Artist Nnamdi Okonkwo who is NIgerian. This certainly reflects how you feel waiting – waiting for a bus or anything. (#36)
Flowering Stiletto by Mary Consle. This doesn’t look comfortable. (#4)
Spring Fever by Kim Kori. What a great sculpture. So life like and fun. It made us smile. (#7)
Broze Sculpture called Hot Bread by Artist Rusty Bowers. This is a sculpture of Hattie and Clarence Wolfswinkle who apparently was a key figure in Mesa. Located on north side of Main Street, between Robson and MacDonald Streets (#10)
Scrapbook Boy by Tom Bollinger. The book has images on it which can barely be seen but this was also a fun sculpture. #11
Barely Fishin by Brady Fairbanks. #12
Booked for the Day by Dan Hill #24
Polar Bear and cubs by Dollores Shelledy (#16)
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall… #2
This has no name but sits in the middle of the road at the train/light rail station. As you can see it has silhouettes all over it.
This was across from the Polar bears and we thought it was great to see the dinosaur excaping form the Museum.
This sat outside of the Museum.

Of course we didn’t put all 38 of the sculptures on this page but hope you enjoyed the ones we did.
