Happy New Year 2019

First, we wish everyone a great 2019! Best of luck!

We were fortunate to fly from Phoenix to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to be with family during the holidays. We arrived on Wednesday evening in Philadelphia and had a rough start since we could not remember who we reserved a car with. Luckily we figured it out but it took us more time in the airport so we started our trip to Allentown late. Then on Saturday, we drove down to Glen Burnie, Maryland (Baltimore area) to see Matthew, Lorraine’s son. We went to lunch at the G&M Crabcakes. If you have never been here, you need to go. They have the largest crabcakes with the largest crab in it. Yummy. In addition, we were able to spend time with Mary and Robert Holt.

After we returned to Allentown, we took sometime to look for murals in this city. Using Google Maps, we only found one place (that was published) that had murals which were at the Allentown Park Hotel. They had a competition with ten mural artists who were selected to paint the outside of the hotel with Alletown history as the theme.

The front Portico of the Hotel . The whole portico was painted by Maltas Con Leche.
The side of the Portico which shows the date Allentown was created (1762) with William Allen’s portrait.
The other side of the portico.
A great mural of downtown Allentown, The bird is sitting on the Soldiers and Sailors Monument which is shown below.

Soldiers and Sailors Monument: Erected in 1899 at Seventh and Hamilton streets, the statue is unusual in that it includes a Confederate soldier. Designer Edward Gallagher said the inclusion was meant as a gesture of reconciliation with the South at a time when the Civil War was still a raw wound. The Confederate soldier and Union soldier stand abreast with the legend “One Flag One Country” etched under them.

Lenni Lenape are the LenniLenape Indians. This mural depicts life areas of the tribes. The first people to live in the Mount Laurel area were the Lenni Lenape Indians. Their territory was the Delaware River Basin which is now southeastern New York, eastern Pennsylvania and most of Delaware and New Jersey. The word Lenape (len-ah-pee) means “original people”.
this mural is by SNX – whose name is not found.

This mural, by Mr PRVRT, is awesome. Mr PRVRT has painted murals all of the country. Check out some of the other works at http://www.mrprvrt.com. We are glad the picture came out so well. In person, the colors are vibrant in the picture. May have to frame this picture.
Interesting mural – The Leaves fall, but the tree still stands. Artist unknown.
Love how they used the windows as grates to the tube exits.

Welcome to Allentown!
Quick! What is the word that is painted here?

So those are the murals we found quickly. Of course, we found out later that there are more in Allentown but didn’t have a chance to find them. We will look for them next time.

So that is a quick summary of our trip back to the east coast. Still counting down the days until we leave Phoenix at the end of March. We want to get on the road and move again.
