California – Russian River/Soma (Sep 11-20, 2016)

Russian River (Sep 11-20, 2016)

We arrived at Russian River so that we could be close to the wineries.(https://www.thousandtrails.com/california/russian-river-rv-campground/)

We had to make an appointment to go to Kistler Winery. http://www.kistlervineyards.com/  Of course, since Kistler is part of Mike’s Mom’s family – we had to go. They have been doing wine testing for only 2 years and their tasting is by appointment only.  The vineyard is beautiful. Kistler Vineyards was founded in 1978 by Steve Kistler and the Kistler family. The first vintage in 1979 produced 3,500 cases of wine and since then the winery has slowly grown to the planned production level of about 35,000 cases per year.  We not only bought wine for ourselves but also sent bottles back to family.

Had to do the tourist thing and visit. We got to hold his two Emmys! Fun. We also got to meet Robert Benavides, actor and director of Ironsides. Wines were very light and nice.
