Texas – San Antonio (Apr 14-May 5 2019)

After visiting friends and family in El Paso, our next stop was in San Antonio for three weeks at Medina Lake (https://www.thousandtrails.com/texas/medina-lake-rv-campround/) in Lakehills, TX. This RV Camp is about 30-50 minutes outside of San Antonio but we enjoy it. First, there are limited 50amp sites and the smaller rigs tend to take them even though they only need a 30amp. So we stayed in F20 with a 30amp. We did ok and cycled our air conditioning with out any problems. The great thing about being in F20 was that there was a large grassy area on the passenger side of the RV and there was a site with gravel in it so there were no neighbors. The other great thing is that all the deer loved coming here to get feed deer corn.

Our dinner guests our first night.
A buck eating from Mike’s Hand. This Buck was always wanting to be hand feed.
Close up of a buck and doe.

We also took a drive into San Antonio to look for murals. We are always amazed at the art at all of the cities we visit and the themes throughout the cities.

First stop was the murals under on the pillars beneath the I-35 Overpass at Quincy and St. Mary’s. These were painted by local artists who have a large range of experience. These murals were commissioned by the San Antonio Street Art Initiative (SASAI) which is nonprofit organization trying to paint all the “drab” buildings in the San Antonio which is known as an art city.
There 16 colorful murals on pillars that varied in themes. We tried to pull the artist’s name from the paintings. No publicized naming of these pillars.

This pillar is the most published pillar. The colors are vibrant and the artist did an outstanding job.
This four side pillar represents the life of a girl. This was Lorraine’s favorite pillar. Love the girl coloring. Appears to be done Miquel Aqualis (@mikecomp)
Then she grows up to be a young ballerina.
Graduates – not sure from high school or college.
And then becomes an astronaut. What a great story.
Mona Lisa with Cacti Bunny Ears. Now that took some imagination.
Speaking of Bunnies.
The details in this one is amazing. Paul Carson 13 seems to be the artist.
Great colors and imagination.
Interesting pillar – the bad guys? The Big Bad Wolf and Pinocchio. Funny how the wolf has his arms and then there are human arms for the rest of the body.
And if you were not able to get a pillar that we was small building there also.
Black and white with a splash of color. Side one.
SIde two. It was interesting to see the continuing colors from one side to the other.
Greetings! This and the next murals are just down the street from the pillars.
Mike swears this Liberace but Lorraine thinks this is George Strait.
Poor Mike getting stepped on by the bird. They were just too big for him.
When we see murals, we try to determine what the story is. We didn’t get this one.

on this one. This was on an abandoned building.
we have no idea who this was but the mural is awesome. Search twitter for #thoforever but the tag does not exist.

Vibrant local music scene. In this piece sponsored by Google Fiber, Nick Long of Lonely Horse captures the local music and energy that pumps out of the famous St. Mary’s Strip. Los Otros pays homage to our local creative scene and the ones who make it thrive. Los Otros is a street art duo consisting of artist Shek Vega, and Nik Soupe. These two Texas artist have a twenty year work history together.
Great eyes!
Of course we had to finish the San Antonio Page with the Spurts!
