Indiana – Ft. Wayne (Jun 14-22, 2019)

We left Springfield, IL and then spent a week at Decatur, IL to basically get an oil change on our RV. We had a chance to drive into downtown in Fort Wayne and see some murals. The murals in this city were very clean and bright.

Through the collaborative efforts of area advocates, property owners and businesses, city alleyways will become canvasses over this spring and summer.

The Fort Wayne Downtown Improvement District announced the “Art This Way, Alley Activation Project.” The first round will put large-scale outdoor murals on walls along Fort Wayne’s alleys. However, the art that doesn’t depict local history or folklore. Sometimes, it’s not even done by local artists, and that’s all part of the allure

A portrait of the poet Walt Whitman on a blue background. We could not find why Walt is such a big deal in Ft. Wayne but there are a lot of establishments named after him.
This was a metal guitar on the side of the wall. This was titled “Guitar Experiment” and was done in memory of Christy Landrigan who was 29 years old. Apparently Christy was crushed between two semis and died in 2016. This is a memorial in her honor by Artists Alex Mendez and Alexandra Hall.

Concept of the mural planned for a wall at 112 W. Wayne Street. It will be painted by artist Matthew Plett.

You have to look at the details of this one to see how many birds are in there.
As you can see, this took up the entire length of the alley.

A panda on the Star Financial Bank at 127 W. Berry St. was painted by artist Tammy Davis. You just want to cuddle with this one.
