So after leaving Miami, we headed back to the Orlando RV Campground for two weeks. As you may remember, we have stayed here numerous times.
We then had to go to Lazy Days to get some adjustments to our newer RV. They had some things that needed to tweaked after we bought it but they didn’t have the parts so we had to come back. Finally, the RV is running great. We are still learning all about the electronics in here but enjoying it.
Once we were done with all the fix ups in Lazy Days, we headed to Daytona. Unfortunately, Lorraine had to take a business trip the same week were there. She went to cold Buffalo, NY. While she was waiting for her Lyft to pick her up, she was able to see some murals. (Of course, she didn’t tour the city because the weather was so cold and snowy. Here are the two murals she saw.
In addition to that, while eating breakfast in the Aloft Hotel, she happened to be sitting next to Daniel Baldwin. Yep the brother of Alec Baldwin. He is the second eldest of the four Baldwin brothers, all of whom are actors.
He was a very nice man and was in town shooting a pilot called “For Nothing,” which is hoping to get picked up by one of the major streaming platforms. This is a crime drama created by 37-year-old Southtowns native Nicholas Denmon, will be filming the series pilot and potentially other episodes in the region. Apparently they use Buffalo a lot because it skyline can be in any movie, series. She got to here his conversation with his two daughters and his wife. When Lorraine asked to creamer in front of him, he said that was his because he was diabetic but she could use it. He then got up and got her a coffee stirrer. From there, he told her about the new series and how is trying to get Jim Kelly to be on the show so he could get him killed. He was very funny. Later, he brought is phone over to Lorraine and her talk to his wife and tell her all about her and Mike’s RV Travels. He wrote our website down. Maybe he will become a subscriber!
Here is the selfie with him:
Then the next morning, she got to meet Robert Funero, best known for the role of Eugene Pontecorvo in the Emmy Award-winning television series The Sopranos. Lorraine remembered him as the father in the first series of The Sinner. He was very nice also.
When Lorraine returned from Buffalo, we decided to go to Daytona Beach. It is the world’s famous beach so why not cross it off our list. So the first thing was to determine why it was named World Famous. According to the web, Dayton Beach is famous “for its wide beach and smooth, hard-packed sands, Daytona Beach became widely known in the early 1900s for high-speed automobile testing, and later, racing. This made the beach a mecca for racing enthusiasts.”
“By the 1920s, it was dubbed the “World’s Most Famous Beach.” As more and more racing took place, the sandy beaches gave way to the development of the famous racetrack known as the Daytona International Speedway, which was built by NASCAR founder William “Bill” France. The speedway has been hosting the Daytona 500 since 1959 and attracts thousands of tourists and race enthusiasts from all over the world in search of thrills.” Of course you can easily stop by the Daytona International Speedway and take a tour for $19-$55 depending on the tour. We didn’t take any tours but drove past if several times.
Anyhow, back to the beach. Apparently, for $20 you can drive your car onto the beach. You park back against the sea wall and the beach is in front of you. This sure makes things easier for you instead of dragging all of your beach coolers and umbrella there. Just unpack your car and set up. Awesome.
We found a couple of murals in the area around Daytona Beach but they didn’t have many. They are still working on putting more out there.
That wrapped up our quick trip to Daytona Beach. We want to come back to this beach during the late Spring or Summer. Looked like a lot of fun potential.
