Maryland/Pennsylvania/Texas (Apr 02-May 25, 2017)
It has been awhile since we have updated this page but many things have occurred which has delayed the update as well as our travel plans.
First we went from Williamsburg to Maryland to see Lorraine’s son, Matthew Ponton. It was a great visit to see him and to visit other friends. Mary and Robert Holt hosted us at their place for a great dinner. Mary always makes Lorraine jealous with her cooking and one day Lorraine may surprise someone (Mike?) with actually cooking. Without an oven in the RV, it is hard to just say to cook but with a Convection oven she will give it a try. Anyhow, in addition to seeing Mary and Robert, we also saw Jackie and Greg Geyer. Lorraine worked with Jackie at ARINC before 1999 and she is glad they are still friends. They may be joining us in Yellowstone. We also saw Cynthia and Thompson Grant. Lorraine worked with Thompson at Centuria until 2012. They are great people and friends. We had a great time at dinner with them.
From Maryland we went to see Mike’s family in Allentown, PA. Always great to see them especially Mykaela and Emma Yanders, Mike’s nieces. Mom is doing well now that she is living with Scott so that is good news. Below are some pictures from Allentown, PA.
At the beginning of March, Lorraine was informed that her job was going to be eliminated and was lucky to find another job inside of NTT Data Services, formerly Dell Services. With her new job, her manager requested that she come to Plano, Texas for 4 weeks to meet the team and set things up. So from May 2 to May 25 we were in Plano, Texas. Lorraine was introduced to her team and now will continue to work remotely. Deviating to Plano, however, changed our plans to go to Niagara Falls and Nashville so we will have to work on that at another time.
We stayed at the Lafons RV Park in Princeville and this was a sunrise over the field.
While in Plano, we went to Dallas to see Dealy Plaza and the JFK memorial. It was interesting to walk the area of the assassination and looking back at the Book Depository and the window where supposedly the fatal shot came from. Without walking this area, we really did not have a real view or understanding of the site. It caused us to pause and later to look at the video again to put our walk into perspective. Many questions remain after being there but the area is well respected. Here are some photos.
Across from Dealy Plaza is the Old Red Museum, “the Dallas County Courthouse, built in 1892 of red sandstone rusticated marble accents, is a historic governmental building located at 100 South Houston Street in Dallas, Texas. Also known as the Old Red Courthouse, it is now (since 2007) the Old Red Museum, a local history museum. It was designed in the Richardson Romanesque style of architecture by architect Max A. Orlopp, Jr. of the Little Rock, Arkansas based firm Orlopp & Kusener. In 1966 it was replaced by a newer courthouse building nearby. On December 12, 1976, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. In 2005-2007 the building was renovated.”
